Specialty Contact Lenses

When standard soft lenses can't deliver clear, comfortable vision, specialty lenses are the answer. We fit scleral lenses for irregular corneas and severe dry eye, and multifocal RGPs for presbyopia.

What scleral lenses are

Scleral lenses are larger than regular contacts. Instead of resting on the cornea, they vault over it and land softly on the white of the eye (the sclera). The extra size makes them easier to handle, more stable on the eye, and far less likely to dislodge. They're rigid gas permeable, so oxygen still reaches the cornea — and the space between lens and cornea holds a thin reservoir of fluid that keeps dry eyes comfortable for hours.

Who benefits most

  • Keratoconus and other irregular corneas — sharper, more reliable vision than glasses or soft lenses can deliver.
  • Severe dry eye or exposure keratitis — the fluid reservoir keeps the surface moist all day.
  • Post-corneal-transplant or post-refractive-surgery eyes that don't tolerate regular lenses.

What the fitting involves

A specialty fit takes more time than a standard contact lens fitting, and that's by design. We map the surface of your eye, select a trial lens, and refine the fit across follow-up visits — typically at one week, one month, and beyond — until your vision and comfort are stable.
