Orthokeratology (Ortho-K)

Orthokeratology uses custom-designed rigid lenses worn overnight to gently reshape the cornea while you sleep. You wake to clear, glasses-free daytime vision — and for children, Ortho-K is one of the most effective tools we use to slow the progression of myopia.

Everything this visit covers.

Custom overnight lenses fitted from precise corneal mapping

Clear daytime vision without glasses or daytime contacts

A leading option in our myopia management program for children

Fully reversible — corneas return to their natural shape if you stop

Ongoing follow-up to monitor fit, comfort, and corneal health

Good to know

Understanding your care.

How it works

The cornea is gently reshapable. A custom rigid lens worn while you sleep flattens the central curve just enough to focus light correctly the next day. Some patients see clearly within a single night; for most, it takes one to four weeks of nightly wear to settle. Ortho-K has been FDA-approved for overnight use since 2002.

Who should consider Ortho-K

  • Allergies or discomfort with daytime contact lenses
  • Dry eye that flares with regular contact wear
  • Active sports where glasses or daytime lenses are inconvenient
  • A general preference to be glasses-free without surgery
  • Children whose myopia is progressing — Ortho-K is part of our myopia management program

What to expect

Mild lens awareness for the first few nights is normal and fades quickly. You may still need glasses for a few days at the start. Once stabilized, vision stays clear through the day — and the process is fully reversible if you stop wearing the lenses. Because most reported issues relate to lens hygiene, we go over cleaning and storage carefully at the fitting.
